Cycling sells – communicate change wisely and take the retail sector with you

Tuesday 02.00 – 03.15 pm / Block A1

The retail sector has been through a lot in the last few years – from the Covid-19 pandemic, to increased shift to online retail and now plans to reduce parking space in front of stores. Business owners are often not amused at first when streets are to be redesigned. And yet various studies show that retailers can generate more revenue from cyclists. How can the retail sector also become a driver of the mobility transformation?
In order to find good and effective solutions for cycling, it is often also necessary to impose restrictions on or develop strategically what we know or are familiar with. This can be seen, for example, when motor vehicle parking spaces in front of one’s own business are eliminated or traffic bans are imposed. Using shopping streets as examples, the forum will go through the strategic steps that are important for the subsequent success of communication measures and participation processes and will allow for opposing views to be discussed.
